Android Tv 10 On Raspberry Pi4 ... How It Works And Install Guide

Transcript:

Hey, guys, and welcome back to another video. And I hope you are okay. On that side of the screen and I just finished recording this video on my Portuguese channel, and there was a fellow named Rui, which said a robot not blue today. So I’m going to do the same here and let’s go green for today now. Raspberry Pi 4 which is a awesome device. We have installed a lot of operating systems. We will install more. We will test out and so on so forth, but today, Android TV 10. With Google play store. Yeah, and a lot of apps and a lot of things and the overall experience is great. So what we are going to do. Is I’m going to share my limited somewhat experience with the apps that I’ve tested and after that, I’m going to share to that side of the screen. How to install step by step, so if you want to follow the guide, then you will have all the informations. First of all, let me share the credits too. To Costa Kang. Which is the person that developed this. I will leave a link down below for his guide. So if you guys prefer to follow a written guide, which is the original guide, then there’s that guide from Costa Kang. So a huge thumbs up to Costa now, having that said the overall experience has been better than what I was expecting really, really nice, starting with the Google play store and all the apps that we can install from there now. I did start with Youtube and the experience was better better than I was expecting. The master maximum resolution is 1080 I actually did test out. Uh, f playing. With the 1080 display, I also played with a 4k display to see if I could change the resolution, but no, there is no option to change the resolution. 1080 is the maximum by the way. If you want to know what works and what doesn’t work on Costa can guide that is that’s information, so you might want to check that out if you want some more details. But in terms of Youtube, the experience was really nice, really smooth. At the beginning of the video, we noticed a few small drop frames, but nothing, nothing special. So if you want something to play Youtube on Android TV, then this will be a great experience. I also tested Kodi and surprise surprise. It works really nice streaming movies from my network Attached storage solution, 1080 mkv, blu-ray files and without any issues now. These movies are 8-bit h264 movies bit. Forget about it, 4k Forget about it h.265 not a good experience. At least the files that I’ve tested and this has an explanation and Costa Kang mentions this on the guide. There is no hardware decoding acceleration only by software. So we’re gonna have a few limitations here, But the overall experience was just awesome. If you enjoy plex or MB, the experience will be very, very similar, actually, because movies will be decoded by the server and not the player, but nonetheless works really, really nice. I also tested out a IPTV service of my country, which is Novo and it did work. Great, the great experience right over here. This app is awesome. Now, Netflix, forget about it as we were expecting HBO. I did test it out and it installs and we can choose the Siri or the movie, But when your time comes to play something, it will just hang in there and I was not able to play HBO now. This one was a bit of this disappointing. Because usually HBO plays on almost any device and here didn’t work out. But I’m not too too concerned about that now. The final question that I had in terms of apps were about gaming. How far could we go? So I didn’t install a game that I didn’t play for quite some time was, which is peach buggy, simple game, actually, really fun game, and it works great with the exception that there is a small bug that the driver will disappear as you can see by some images. Everything works great, but the driver will just go away and the other drivers, actually. I was noticing that when they are far away, we can see them, but when we get closer, they will disappear so there. Is this kind of bug here and there? But the game itself gameplay was really, really nice. And then I wanted to test out a thing a little bit. Uh, more demanding, so I did install Asphalt 8 And surprisingly, the result was great. Now, while I was playing, it was a smooth, uh, playback, so no issues there, but sometimes I did not notice a small lag here and there, But the overall experience is very playable. Actually, I was playing with the Gamepad. I did test out the Gamepad, a remote control infrared remote control, actually. Besides infrared, It has the wireless and air mouse, and it worked great and also keyboard and mouse via USB and the speaker via Bluetooth. So all this assist accessories work really, really nice so guys. Basically, this is my experience on this limited experience that I had for these two couple of days that I’ve been playing with the Raspberry Pi 4 with Android TV OS Android 10. Now for those of you, that are okay with the information and well, okay, I’m not going to install. So you guys feel free to go. Although it’s really interesting for those that want to install and try out on your raspberry Pi extra micro SD card, then just follow along, and I’m going to explain as best as I can. As short as I can so that you can follow this guide, step by step and install on your raspberry pi. So let’s start by going to the link that we leave right here on the first line of Youtube, which is constant Kang. First of all, we will need to download three files first. One is the image itself that we are going to install on the microsd card. Also, we are going to download a file called recoverybootzip and we are going to download the open gaps, which basically is what will allow us to install the Google play store. Now we are going to use a software, which is Balena etcher to write the image and I’m not even going to leave the link because it’s very known. We have used a lot here to write images for the Raspberry Pi, so just search Google Balena etcher. You’ll find it, install it on windows or on Mac. By the way I’m using a mac. But the process is exactly the same as on windows, so once we have Baleno etcher, we can just record the image to our micro SD card while it’s doing it’s thing we can put a USB thumb drive into our computer and then put those two other files that we have downloaded inside the USB drive. Once Balena actually finishes writing the image to the microsd cards. We just need to remove the microsd card from the computer. Put it inside the Raspberry Pi also put the USB thumb drive on the Raspberry Pi and just boot the Raspberry Pi, and this part is easy now we will boot into the system lineage OS and it will ask for that basic configuration. We will have to choose the language, the time date network and so on so forth, but once we do that we will enter the Android TV OS menu. Don’t get scared! It will be completely empty. There will be no apps at all, but we are going to install Google play store and after that all the apps that we want to do that, we just need to go to the options and then device preferences and select the menu about. And once we go to that menu, we will need to go to the build and select or press several times on the builds until it unlocks the developer options, so just go back one step and then select the developer options, which will be available on the previous menu and then we will need to enable two things. One is roots access and also the local terminal. Once we have this, we can go back to the main menu of our Android TV, And if we select apps, you will see that we have one app right now. Which is the terminal? So just open that app. It will show us a terminal and once we open the terminal, we will write S U and press enter by the way if the image starts to disappear, the DD letters Don’t worry, it’s normal. I guess some kind of bug. If you press any key, then it will reappear, but the thing that we’re going to need to do is S U enter, and then we will write on the next line, RBI4 Dash Recovery, Dot S H. And press, and and we just need to write reboot and press enter and the Raspberry Pi will reboot and in this particular case, instead of booting back to Android, it will boot to the TWRP menu and right now we are going to take care of this really quickly and really simple, so the first thing we need to do is select swipe to allow modifications. Then we will press install select storage and we will select our USB drive that we just have two apps that we downloaded and we are going to select the open gaps once we select that we will need to choose swipe to confirm flash and it will start doing. It’s thing now! This will take a while. I don’t know, two three minutes, probably a little bit less, but once it finishes, we will need to select the option, Wipe, wipe DAB link and then select swipe to wipe and this will be very quick, then we’re gonna press on the left top corner to go to the menu and select, uh, the option named wipe and just select swipe to factory reset. We can go back to the main menu, and then we select mount and we will tick the box where it says boot. Then we go back to the main menu and we will press install and once we press install, we will have all the same menu that we had on our USB drive. But in this particular case, we are going to select the other file, which is lineage recovery to boot, and after that we will press the swipe to confirm, and once it confirms it will give us the option to reboot or we can go back to the main menu and select reboot and that is it. Once it reboots it will go back to the Android menu button right now. Once we go through all the options, we will see that it’s a bit different because we will have the Google play store options to configure language our email and so on so forth so once we get to the main Android TV screen, you will see that we will have the apps from Google, including Google play store, and then we just need to do something, which is search our favorite apps install and play and have fun because at the end of the day, It’s what matters doing things that we enjoy. If this is one thing that you enjoy, then great, just have fun. Hopefully this video did help to reach to this point and right now. Just enjoy it guys. Basically, this is it hope that the video was helpful once again, and if it was, don’t forget the usual and very appreciated Thumbs up right over there before I finish the video. I’m going to put it back on blue so that we can finish as with its thoughts. Thanks for your support and for the thumbs up. My name is Roberto George. And as always. I’ll see you guys on the next one. [music] you!
